University's Department of Tourism, Leisure, Hotel and Sport Management
achieved hall of fame status after taking out the Tourism Education and
Training award for the third year in a row at the annual Queensland
Tourism Awards last night.
"It is recognition of our sustained excellence in educating the leaders of Queensland tourism," Professor Toohey said. She attributed the department's success to their achievements in teaching and research. "For a number of years we have been a world leader in tourism research and our students are taught by world experts who are providing them with cutting edge knowledge," Professor Toohey said. "I believe we won these awards because we keep building on Griffith's sustained contributions in the tourism, hotel and event teaching areas. "Thus, we go beyond training: we educate and generate knowledge to pass on to our students.
